Decatur contractor recognized for ‘green’ work and wins NARI Green Project Recognition Award

Decatur-based Struby Construction is among 10 U.S. home renovators recognized in January for environmentally responsible work. The National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) established an award this year to applaud practices from Green-certified professionals that meet sustainable building and energy standards.

Struby Construction won the award for its renovation of a 1925 bungalow located in Decatur’s Great Lakes neighborhood. The project involved converting attic space into a two bedroom, one bath living area. By using soy-based, spray-foam insulation, implementing low-energy heating and air systems, and practicing other green techniques, Struby earned the owners EarthCraft Certification, a federal income tax credit and monthly savings on energy costs.

“Building green homes provides homeowners with a healthier and more comfortable home,” says Struby. “By reducing the amount of energy and water consumption, the home becomes more efficient and has a lower environmental impact. So it’s a win-win situation for both the home owner and the environment.”
